 Just a little note for me if I decide to try the latest beta, from a comment at slashdot. 🙂
- Start Firefox.
- In the Address Bar type “about:config” and press Enter.
- Right-Click and select New->Integer.
- A box requesting the Preference Name will popup and you should enter “browser.tabs.closeButtons” (without the quotes). Press OK to continue.
- Now you need to select the type of close button you want:
0 – display a close button on the active tab only
1 – display close buttons on all tabs
2 – don’t display any close buttons
3 – display a single close button at the end of the tab strip (Firefox 1.x behavior). After entering the value corresponding to your preference press OK again.
Which config do you prefer? I have the one close button on the tab as is the default 2.0 behaviour. Also, two frequently overlooked features are the abilities to one-click close non-selected tabs with the third mouse button and to right click the tab-field and choose “undo close tab”….
I mostly close tabs using middle-click so option 2 is my preferred choice, the button just looks so out of place and ugly. 🙂
For less advanced users the per-tab close button has a point though since they wouldn’t know how to close tabs if it wasn’t there, and a close button per tab is more intuitive I guess.
